I spring into performance art from a photography background. My work is rooted in performative self-portraiture, using light and video, and has expanded toward installations. From there, my practice has organically evolved into the realm of performance art. I’ve also dabbled in theatrical arts, such as Boffoun. Yet, I feel that my leap into performance art stems from visual expression within the context of fine arts. On the other hand, my visual expression has always been strongly multi-sensory and bodily. I’ve never considered myself a verbal person.

To me, performance art means absolute freedom of expression and the opportunity to truly focus on my inner knowledge and the messages of the body. Being in a performance means experiencing a powerful multi-sensory moment that arises from connections with other people, objects, the space, and time. As a form of expression, performance is a way of being without the meaning of words or logical thinking. In performance, all the elements important to me —visuality, aesthetics, bodily presence, collectivity, and play— come together.

I feel that performance as an expression is an active presence in time and space. Its power lies precisely in its reactivity, momentariness, and lack of rules.
